Petroleum coke (abbreviated to pet coke) derives from oil refinement and has a high carbon content. It is a form of solid carbon produced, with the aid of heat and decomposition, from the polymerization of heavy liquid hydrocarbons derived from crude oil refinement.

Many commercial coke varieties with different physical and chemical characteristics are used in various industrial applications according to the method of industrial production used to obtain it.
